Not all light waves are the same. Light in the blue, amber and red spectrum cause photosensitive retinal ganglion cells to release melanopsin. Put simply, for people living with migraine this can trigger a migraine attack – or make it worse.
However, light in the green spectrum is soothing.
That’s why Avulux engineers developed a lens that precisely filters up to 97% of the most harmful blue, amber and red light while allowing in up to 70% of soothing green light.

Specialty tints for Light Sensitivity
Light Sensitivity and Photophobia Reducing Specialty Tints
Our prescription lenses are available in the precision FL-41 tint. Originally developed in the 1990’s to deal with the uncomfortable effects of flourescent lighting, it is now commonly recommended for patients with migraines and post-concussion syndrome. FL-41 blocks approximately 80% of blue light in the spectrum of 480-520 nanometers.
The above photo shows a client’s beautiful Lamarca frame fitted with ZEISS prescription lenses with the FL-41 tint to provide her relief from glare. This eyeglass also has ZEISS Duravision Platinum anti-reflection applied to dramatically reduce annoying reflections on the lenses.
Custom Cafe Style Tints
Zeena had her prescription glasses done with a cosmetically appealing ZEISS brown tint creating a stunning “Cafe eyeglass”. ZEISS brown tints naturally filter blue light. Besides looking great Zeena finds they provide relief from the glare of lights. Her Cafe glasses are pictured below.
