Buying a pair of eyeglasses should be about more than finding a frame and checking out.

Your glasses are something you may wear every day, for years. They need to fit properly, work with your prescription, suit your lifestyle and, hopefully, make you feel pretty good when you look in the mirror.

That’s why we believe personal service still matters.

At Matador Eyeworks, an independent optical boutique in Milton, Ontario, we take a different approach to choosing eyewear. We don’t believe there is one frame, one lens or one solution that works for everyone.

We believe the best place to start is with a conversation.

It Starts With You

When someone comes into Matador, we want to know more than their prescription.

What do you do for work?

Do you spend most of your day at a computer?

Do you drive a lot?

Do you spend your weekends golfing, fishing or enjoying the outdoors?

Do you need progressive lenses?

Are you looking for prescription sunglasses?

Or maybe you simply want something completely different from what you’ve been wearing for the last ten years.

Those details matter.

Your prescription tells us how you need to see. Your lifestyle tells us how you use your vision.

The two should work together.

Finding the Right Frame

There are thousands of eyeglass frames available in the world.

That doesn’t mean you need to try on thousands of them.

One of the benefits of working with an independent optical boutique is having someone help narrow things down based on what you’re looking for.

We consider things such as:

  • Frame size and proportions
  • Your facial features
  • Your personal style
  • Your prescription
  • The lens design you’re considering
  • Materials and construction
  • How the frame feels when you wear it

And then there’s the most important part:

Do you actually like it?

We think that matters.

The Frame and Lenses Work Together

A great-looking frame is only part of the equation.

The lenses are what you actually look through all day, so choosing the right lens technology can be just as important as choosing the frame.

At Matador Eyeworks, we offer a range of prescription lens options from leading manufacturers, including ZEISS.

Depending on your needs, that can include single-vision lenses, progressive lenses, computer lenses, driving-specific options, photochromic lenses and other specialized designs.

We also offer ZEISS DriveSafe, ZEISS PhotoFusion X and ZEISS ClearMind, along with ZEISS MyoCare for myopia management.

For clients exploring myopia management options for children, we also offer Hoya MiyoSmart lenses.

The goal isn’t to put everyone into the newest or most complicated lens available.

It’s to find the lens that makes sense for your prescription and your life.

Eyewear Should Be Fitted, Not Just Ordered

The fit of your glasses matters.

Your glasses need to sit properly on your face.

The bridge, temples, frame width, lens position and other measurements all contribute to how comfortable your glasses are and how well they perform.

This becomes particularly important with progressive and other personalized lens designs.

At Matador, we take the time to make adjustments and make sure your glasses are sitting properly.

Sometimes the solution isn’t a new pair of glasses.

Sometimes you just need a little adjustment.

We’ll always take a look first.

Independent Eyewear Gives You More Choice

Another part of the Matador experience is the eyewear itself.

We choose to carry independent eyewear brands because we want our clients to have options beyond mass-produced frames that are designed to appeal to everyone.

Our collection includes brands such as Matsuda, Anne et Valentin, Linda Farrow, Lunetterie Générale, Cutler and Gross, Lamarca and Entourage of 7, among others.

These brands have their own design identities, materials and approaches to craftsmanship.

Some frames are bold.

Some are understated.

Some are made with beautiful Japanese acetate or titanium.

Some are deliberately unusual.

And some simply look fantastic when you put them on.

That’s the point of having choice.

Prescription Sunglasses Are Part of the Picture Too

If you wear prescription glasses, sunglasses shouldn’t be an afterthought.

At Matador Eyeworks, we offer prescription sunglasses with options such as polarized lenses, different tints and other lens technologies.

We can help you choose sunglasses based on how you’ll use them, whether you’re driving, golfing, fishing, travelling or simply enjoying the outdoors.

For some clients, we can also provide Canadian-made custom clip-ons for their existing eyeglass frames.

There isn’t one perfect solution for everyone, and that’s why we like to talk through the options.

We Make the Insurance Process Easier

Buying eyewear can also involve navigating your vision insurance benefits.

At Matador Eyeworks, we can submit claims directly to 45 different insurance companies, helping make the process more convenient for our clients.

Insurance coverage varies from plan to plan, so we’ll always recommend checking your individual benefits, but we’re happy to help you understand the process from our side.

We Don’t Do Eye Exams at Matador

One thing that is important to understand about our business is that we do not perform eye exams at Matador Eyeworks.

We work with the prescription provided by your optometrist or ophthalmologist and then help you choose the eyewear and lenses that work with that prescription.

We think that distinction is important.

An eye exam and choosing eyewear are two different parts of your vision-care journey, and we focus on the part we know best: helping you find the right frames and lenses for your needs.

Sometimes We Can Get Your Glasses Done Quickly

Not every prescription or lens combination has the same turnaround time, but some prescriptions can be completed on-site in about an hour.

If you’re in a hurry, ask us what might be possible with your particular prescription and lens choice.

For other orders, we’ll give you an estimated timeframe when you place your order.

Why We Do Things This Way

We didn’t open Matador Eyeworks because we wanted to create another place where people could simply buy glasses.

We wanted to create a place where eyewear was treated as something personal.

Your glasses sit right in the middle of your face.

They’re part of your appearance, your daily routine and the way you see the world.

So we think you deserve more than a quick transaction.

You deserve someone who will tell you when a frame looks great.

And someone who will tell you when it doesn’t.

You deserve someone who can explain the difference between lens options without making your eyes glaze over.

And you deserve someone who will adjust your glasses six months later because they’re not sitting quite right.

A Personal Note From Zeena and Mark

For us, this is really what Matador Eyeworks is about.

We’re Zeena and Mark, and we’re the people you’ll see when you come into the boutique.

We get to know our clients. We remember what they were wearing before. We hear about their new job, their upcoming vacation, their kids, their golf game and all the little things that can actually influence what kind of eyewear makes sense for them.

Sometimes we’re helping someone choose their very first pair of glasses.

Sometimes we’re helping someone find a completely new look.

Sometimes we’re simply tightening a screw.

That’s the part of owning an independent optical boutique in Milton that we love.

We get to make eyewear personal.

So if you’re looking for eyeglasses in Milton, Ontario, prescription sunglasses, progressive lenses, independent eyewear or simply someone to help you figure out what would work best for you, come visit us at Matador Eyeworks.

We’ll ask some questions, pull out some frames and see where the conversation takes us.

Because in the end, great eyewear isn’t just about what you see through your glasses. It’s also about how you feel wearing them.
