We don’t carry Japanese-made eyewear simply because it says “Made in Japan” on the frame.

We choose brands because we like what they are doing and because we believe our clients appreciate the difference.

Our collection includes Japanese-made eyewear from several independent brands, including Lunetterie Generale, Linda Farrow, Entourage of 7 and Matsuda.

We also carry selected pieces from Anne et Valentin and Cutler and Gross that are made in Japan.

Each brand has its own design language and approach to craftsmanship. That’s important to us. We don’t want every frame in the boutique to look or feel the same.

Matsuda

Matsuda is a particularly interesting example of Japanese eyewear craftsmanship.

The brand has a long-standing reputation for detailed construction, premium materials and intricate finishing. Matsuda frames can combine Japanese acetate, titanium and other carefully selected materials in designs that have a distinctly architectural quality.

Some Matsuda frames involve an impressive amount of work and finishing, even when the final result looks deceptively simple.

We’ve featured Matsuda quite a bit at Matador, and for good reason. When you have one in your hands, you can start to appreciate why the brand has such a devoted following.
